On Thursday, January 22, 2026, the University of Sharjah – College of Dental Medicine will host a faculty-based educational program titled “Zirconia Implants in Modern Dentistry: Science, Concept & Clinical Application.”
The event is designed for dental professionals seeking a deeper scientific and clinical understanding of zirconia implantology, with a strong focus on biological principles, surgical workflows, and real-world clinical application.
Academic focus on ceramic implantology
Zirconia implants are gaining increasing attention in modern dentistry due to their biocompatibility, aesthetic advantages, and alignment with biological treatment concepts. This educational program offers a comprehensive overview of zirconia implant science, clinical indications, and contemporary treatment protocols, combining didactic lectures with hands-on training.
The program will be led by Dr. Gregor Hočevar, a specialist in biological dentistry and ceramic implants, and Dr. Amir Hadjhamou, an experienced prosthodontist and academic educator.
From science to clinical practice
The morning session will focus on the scientific background of zirconia implants, including material properties and clinical research evidence. This will be followed by a didactic session covering implant design, case selection, surgical and prosthetic workflows, and practical decision-making in daily clinical practice.
In the hands-on segment, participants will gain practical experience with Swiss Dental Solutions (SDS) zirconia implant systems, with a particular emphasis on immediate implant placement and soft-tissue-oriented surgical techniques.
A platform for academic exchange
Hosted within a university setting, the program encourages open academic discussion and exchange between clinicians, educators, and specialists. It provides participants with evidence-based insights and practical tools for integrating zirconia implantology into modern dental practice.
