Hilotherapy
Hilotherapy is a treatment that cools injured parts of the body. The cooling procedure is precise and controlled. Generally, this is a treatment with a broad spectrum of uses and can be used after various surgical procedures and for injuries, conditions, and aches.
Hilotherapy is a temperature-based treatment and it accelerates the healing of damaged tissue. It is used in surgical procedures and in the treatment of injuries and chronic conditions that cause swelling, bleeding, edema and inflammation.
Not only does Hilotherapy accelerate healing, but it also manages pain and thus decreases the use of pain medication.
Hilotherapy prevents and alleviates:
- swelling,
- pain,
- hematoma formulation.
It can also be used in:
- surgical procedures,
- fresh injuries,
- chronic pain and conditions.
Typical cooling resources such as ice packs, ice gels, etc. which work at 0° Celsius have substantial faults in comparison to Hilotherapy. When the tissue’s temperature falls below 15° Celsius, lymph drainage and metabolism are disturbed. The use of ice helps alleviate pain, but it does not help prevent swelling of hematoma formulation. After the use of ice, the harmful transient increase in organ blood flow (reactive hyperemia) always occurs and negatively affects infections and swelling, and in severe cases even causes nervous paralysis.
