Traditionally, calculus is removed with manual instruments, which can be painful, invasive, and cause damage to the surface of teeth, gums and implants. Polishing with a manual polishing rubber cup takes quite some time and is often inaccurate. Many areas cannot be reached with this technique, and the gums will be physically affected and damaged as a result.
