It all started with mercury. At first, he did not pay too much attention to the harmfulness of mercury. More disturbing was the fact that a lot of the healthy part of the tooth had to be removed when inserting a mercury filling. This led to intense scrutiny of modern technology and new materials. It was only later that he really understood how toxic mercury is.

And so the path from conventional dentistry was reversed and in 2017 he opened the private Hočevar Biological Centre.

The characteristic of the biological approach is, above all, much greater caution in the selection of materials that are inserted or removed from the patient's mouth. Biological dentistry began with the awareness of the danger of amalgams and the need for a much safer process for their removal. It later expanded to other areas, especially the study of the influence of various metals and the remediation of inflammation.

The biological approach is characterised by much greater care in the choice of materials inserted or removed from the patient's mouth. Biological dentistry started with the awareness of the dangers of amalgams and the need for a much safer procedure for their removal. Later, it expanded into other areas, in particular the study of the effect of different metals and the remediation of inflammation.

Biological dentistry is becoming increasingly important as more and more patients are suffering from various allergies, other hypersensitivities, heavy metal overload or a weakened immune system in general. The term itself is not so essential. Any dentist who takes the necessary steps to adequately protect the patient when removing amalgam fillings is doing a good job, even if he or she is not formally qualified as a biological dentist. It is all about awareness.

Dr Gregor Hočevar regularly attends training courses and obtains practical experience and certificates of competence in biological dentistry. Training is essential. For all the employees of the Hočevar Centre, we attach the utmost importance to this. This is the only way we can carry out our work to the highest standards.

For me, a biological dentist is an informed dentist who regularly monitors how the technique is improving and keeps up with new materials. Above all, he cares about what he puts in his patients' mouths. Our aim is to save living teeth, which requires regular and thorough check-ups.
